For most of us in the Northern Hemisphere it is getting cold out. This is the only time I’ll say this, but form follows function here. You should wear a nice warm hat to prevent getting colds and frostbite. The right hat can be cool though. Here is the Fashionable Entrepreneur’s guide to choosing cool winter hats.
Hats are made of four main materials:
Each material has different advantages to it. Acrylic and fleece hats are light weight, warm and usually cheap. They are made of a synthetic fiber. Wool hats are very warm, but can be itchy. Lastly fur is very warm and looks luxurious, but it is expensive and has to be professionally cleaned if need be.
The Fashionable Entrepreneur recommends a hat in either acrylic, fleece, or fur. I have owned hats in each type and have liked them. I wear a fleece or acrylic hat for day-to-day activities and save my fur hat for when I’m dressed up.
These are the main types of winter hats to choose from:
- Bomber Hat
- Ski Hat
- Knit Hat
The beanie is a head hugging brimless cap. It can come with or without a visor. When there is a visor it is typically an inch wide.
The skullcap is smaller than the beanie. It is a round brimless hat fitting the crown of the head.
Bomber hats usually have a waterproof covering on the top. They also have ear flaps. These are usually the warmest style of hats.
The ski hat is a knit hat that usually has a tassel on top and ear flaps.
The last type of hat is the knit hat. It is usually a bit bigger then the beanie and the bottom is folded up. This is the most common and classic type of hat.
Out of these, the Fashionable Entrepreneur recommends wearing a brimless beanie for everyday wear. It is a more modern and clean style then the other types of hats.
